Edisto Seafood - fresh and authentic

Edisto Seafood, on Edisto Island, has just a few boats in its fleets, but they bring in some exquisite seafood. On Friday we bought 2 lbs. of white roe shrimp, 31-35s (that's the size name -it's called that because it's the average number of shrimp per pound. These shrimp were large.) I talked to Gary Jones and his cousin, Bobby, who operate the shrimp boat Leo. They just moved up here from the Jacksonville area, and were happy to be catching some pretty shrimp. The Sarah Jane, owned by Capt. Smoak, was tied up there, as was the Stormrunner. As you can see, they also have crabs, and will cook them for you. I was really tempted to buy one of their pretty t-shirts. A charter boat service -- Fontaine -- also operates from that dock.
